Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
