Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
