The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
